A brunette walked lightly through the courtyard. Her hands running through her dark brown hair. Her blue eyes wanderd around looking for any life she could know. She smoothed down her blue jean mini skirt and pulled up her pink tank top. She smiled brightly as she sat on the bench. She looked around trying to find some one to ease drop on. She couldn't see anyone in sight. She looked towards the sky and couldn't get a vision. She looked like she was in pain. Snapping out of it all she looked around again still not seeing anyone.
She laid down lightly on the bench. Her eyes scanned the sky for planes and the sort. She smiled as she fell into a light nap until she heard a noise. She sat up to look around and saw a cat walking in the courtyard. She wished she could talk to animals she always thought that ability was so cool.

Mel was only taking a short cut, She hated being out in the open. Her powers to mind read worked only within the space she occupied. Rooms were easy to manuver. But outside? She could hear so much. And she couldn't turn it off. It was like a roar. She couldn't make out most things, she was trying to ignore them as best she could.
This is why I'm never outside.
She really had to learn. This didn't help her, it only made her crazy. Mel tugged on her sleeves a little as she picked up her pace, and as she did so, she practically fell over a cat.

Zoe thought intensely on hearing someone any one. She was thinking when she heard a thought in her mind. She looked up and saw the girl almost trip over the cat. She smiled brightly and waved at her. "Hello" she said to the girl. She patted the bench next to her hoping the girl would accept her inventation to sit down for a shat. She smiled. "My Name is Zoe."she said.
I wonder if she is lost.
Zoe thought lightly. She didn't think very much because she was afraid of other people like her. She smiled brightly. She waited to hear the girl think again.She looked lightly and thought about the girl. She though about what grade she was in. She smiled and waited. She never though she would meet some one out here this late at night.

"Hi," Mel said looking at the seat she had indicated too, "I really don't like being outdoors." She said realizing the girl's mind was pretty blank, other than the fact that she was keeping it blank so other people couldn't read it. "How does your mind reading work?" She asked. They often knew their own kind, but everyones worked differently, some could turn it on or off, some could dim them or shut down. She heard everything, but the more people, the more jumped it was, like a radio with bad reception.
Mel patted the cat lightly and then sat down, but she just wanted to get inside and with a few other minds only.

She smiled as the girl spoke. "Well I can hear every ones mind. Well unless they keep theirs blank like i keep mine blank." she smiled lightly. She loved looking at another mind reader. They were the best people because they understood how you felt. She looked at the girls. "And how does yours work?" she wondered this as she looked at the girl. She needed to know more about other peoples powers. She wanted everyone to know how good it felt to read some ones mind.
She looked lightly around and saw. She looked nervous. She knew this girl didn't like being out here. "Don't worry no one is coming out for at least another hour." she said waiting for the girl to realize that she could also see the future. She wanted the girl to calm down and relax. But of course that more then likely wouldn't happen.

"I hear the thoughts of anyone who is in the same room as me, every little thought. When i'm outside, there are no boundaries, just more people. Its like turning on a bunch of radios on at once. The people closest are loudest and the people farthest away are softer. But all in all its very hard to pick them apart in crowds. Gives me unimaginable headaches, which is why I prefer the indoor company of a few."
That was the best description she could give, thorough and concise. She only hoped the girl, she;'d said her name was Zoe, could understand. "I'm Mel."

"Yeah being indoors is alot easier. But i love ease dropping so i sit outside alot. I'm big into gossip." she said lightly. She knew that was nothing to brag about but she couldn't help but tell the truth. She hadn't lied since she had her miscarrige. She hated the thought of it.
I need to stop thinking about that.
The thought slipped out of the barrier. She hoped that the girl wouldn't badger about what she was thinking. She never liked to explain to people about the baby she could have had. She was going to name the baby Areille. She loved that name.
She wondered if she would have been able to come here if she had a baby. She wondered how her life wouldbe if she would have not miscarried. "Hello Mel its nice to meet you." she said brightly.

Zoe's mental 'radio' was quite loud and very obvious to Mel since the girl wasn't saying anything. The girl had almost had a baby? She was so young... her life would have been hard with a baby. She had no idea or way to know fi the girl would be better off or not., in some way. Mel was still a virgin, she hardly had any clue.

Her eyes darted around the courtyard lightly. She was waiting for her powers to pick up some ones thoughts but she couldn't quite tune in. She had discovered that when she thought about her problems everyone else just disappeared. She looked lightly at the girl and the looked around.
"So have you ever thought to hard that everything just disappeared?"
Her mind wondered around trying to figure out why her powers had shut off. She thought it was neat that she could do this but couldn't help but hate it. She looked lightly around and then back to the girl.
"I mean i can shut mine off when i think.Can you?"
Her light blue eyes darted towards the young lady sitting next to her. Her mind raced and hoped Mel couldn't read it at the moment. She figured that if she had then Mel would have said something about the baby by now. |

"I always hear everything. i can't tune it out, can't turn it off, can't focus on a person's thoughts. Its like flies buzzing around my head. Always." Oh how she wished it would shut off sometimes! but the silence might scare her. not to mention she couldn't stand books or movies sometimes because she didn't know what characters were thinking. But she often watched merely to understand what other people felt like during the day. "So no."
Zoe was wondering why she hadn't brought up the baby yet and Mel looked at her lightly. "Did you want e to ask you about the baby because I was under the impression that you didn't want to talk about it?" She said, verbally answering the thought question.

She looked at her. "Lucky." Her eyes were bright with anticipation. She wished she couldn't turn her voices off. "I hate the silence it makes me nervous." her eyes looked at Mel with the fear and hatred of silence.
When Mel mentioned the baby. She knew she brought it on her self. She thought for a second then nodded her head. "Actually i kind of did want you to bring it up." she stated lightly. She didn't know why but she really wanted to tell some one about the baby.
"I was going to have a baby." She sighed lightly thinking about the baby. She looked at Mel then away. "I know you think i am a freak now." she said. Thats what everyone called her when they found out she had a miscarriage. She knew mel was going to reply with a snide comment like most did.

"You're the one who's lucky. I love the silence." Mel said. The grass was always greener on the other side, wasn't it? How unfair.
"A freak? For wanting a baby? Nothing is weird about that."
Besides, they were all freaks here, for their powers. Things that had no control over. So Zoe slept with a guy and wanted to keep the kid, what was wrong about that? Sure she was kind of too young to be a mother but if she wanted it, and lost it---that pain was real and understandable. Nothing freaky about it.

She looked at her as she listened to her thoughts. They had appeared. She looked at her. "Yeah the grass is always greener i agree." she sighed lightly. Her eyes looked around the courtyard and smiled lightly. She listened to the thoughts around her and sighed. She looked lightly and then looked at her.
"I didn't want the kid.I didn't even was to have sex with that guy. I was young and stupid." She looked at her newly found friend and then back down. Her thoughts ran through the sequence of what had happened to her. She did that so she wouldn't have to say it out loud.
When she was sixteen she was raped by her fathers friend and ended up pregnant by it. In her fifth week she lost the baby. It was a horrible story but she didn't like boasting it around.

Why was she upset about losing a baby she didn't even want to have. And the fifth week was barely along anyway, right?
As for the rape---what could she say? It broke poor Melete's heart to hear stories like that. Mel believed in so much good and truth and people who were really good. So to hear that was like a slap in the face. She really needed to wake up to the world. She realized how lucky she was, even if her family hated her.

She read Mels mind and shook her head. "No it wasn't. Imean yeah i didn't want to get pregnant. But I loved that baby. It was going to be mine." She sighed lightly thinking about the baby that wasn't. "I was gonna name her Violet Starr. After my sister. And if it was a boy....." she sighed lightly thinking of a name she could call her son. She never really thought about it before. She didn't wanna name him after her father because there were already three of them. Well plus she was about to have a nephew named that.
She smiled lightly as she looked at her. She listened to her thoughts and thought about her life and how it wasn't as bad. She couldn't stand her family hating her. She looked lightly and then turned her head towards the sky. She could sense the rain coming.
