Adrian stepped into the bar, smoke snaking it's way through his lungs as he took a breath. Wow, thought Adrian. Some of the kids from Foxglove went to the bar alot, but Adrian had never went. It wasn't anything big, he just hadn't found the time to. His friend Mel had suggested that they go, and Adrian had blindly agreed with her, like usual. She was standing next to him now. Adrian looked over to wards her with a smile. This might be fun, I guess, he thought, knowing she would hear. It was cool because with Mel you could have your own private conversation without any chance of eavesdroppers (excluding other telepaths). Really, he didn't even need to look at her, but it was a habit from regular speech. I've never eve had a beer before, Adrian admitted to Mel.

"I don't drink." She told him in his mind. "I come here to play pool though." It was one of the ew things she'd really bonded with her family over. her father loved to play pool and she had learned in the hopes that it would make them love her. It hadn't worked, but she always come to play a little, which is why she'd suggested it, but i he wanted to drink, he could. Mel preferred to stay away from the stuff.
"Hey Ernie." She said aloud to the bartender who smiled a little at her with a nod. People here knew Mel on sight but not really any other way.

Cool, thought Adrian when she told him she played pool but didn't drink. In secret, he was a little happy. He was afraid he'd make a fool of himself if he -God Forbid- got drunk. It would be hilarious if he did that then couldn't control his powers. He shared a mental image of himself teleporting around randomly, sometimes up in the air, sometimes upside down in a bathroom stall and once even sideways on the bar. Adrian didn't realize he was laughing until a few men in the corner threw him funny looks. Sobering up Adrian smiled at Mel. It surprised him, how loose he was able to be around Mel, because he had no expectations to fill. He could be, well, himself whenever he was hanging out with her. Adrian walked over to the pool table, thinking Select your weapon! Adrian picked out a random cue then made a funny look. My game face, he thought. He was actually sort of funny when he wasn't stuttering or worrying if people would like the joke.

"People would think you were crazy, you realize, normal people hang out here, who don't know about people like us." She said in his mind. Drunk teleporting would be a very big problem indeed.
Mel followed him over to the table and laughed at his silent joke. He really needed to start talking out loud, people were going to start giving them looks. She grabbed a cue and set up the balls in the middle of the table. "You wanna break or shall I?" She asked nodding to the neatly arranged balls.

"People would think you were crazy, you realize, normal people hang out here, who don't know about people like us." She said in his mind. Chuckling, Adrian walked over to the side of the table opposite the balls. "I'll break I suppose." Adrian said, grinning. Adrian stopped down to line up his shot. He had played pool before with his friends, nothing serious, just a couple teenage boys messing around. When he was ready, Adrian drew back his cue once, twice, before smacking the cue ball squarely. The ball flew down the table before hitting the neat triangle of balls with a resounding WHACK! The balls shot around the table, hitting each other and the sides in a flurry of thuds. Too hard, he thought. Adrian stood up and shrugged to Mel as if to say, "Eh, I tried.". The-Bad-Pool-Player walked over to a bar stool and had a seat.

Mel just laughed. He hadn't pocketed any, so it was her shot. She lined up her shot carefully, knocking a solid colored ball into the front right pocket. She tried to hit another solid and missed. "You're stripes." She told him, leaning against the cue stick lightly, waiting for him to take his turn. She was a bit preoccupied with the thoughts of everyone in the room. Especially the thoughts about some man behind her who was checking her out. He was probably old and creepy and Mel did not want to look back.

Adrian watched as Mel bended over and shot a ball straight in. He should of known she was almost a pro. Mel took another shot and missed, but it had been very close. Tough break I suppose. Adrian leaned down to aim for the fourteen ball. when he got in line with the ball, he was more or less across from Mel. Adrian looked past her and saw an old factory worker staring at Mel's body, lust emanating from him. It made Adrian mad. Angling his body to wards the man menacingly, he locked eyes with him. Adrian stared him down until he looked away. Adrian was pretty sure that most of the people here had seen them walk in so he was sure the man knew why he had stared him down. Being the only black guy in a small town and dressing like a rap artist did carry some intimidation. Adrian looked back to Mel, pretty sure she had heard the man's thought. I took care of it, he said to her mentally. Adrian was proud to be in the role of protector. Adrian took his shot, the fourteen ball flew wide. Adrian walked back to his stool, resisting the urge to save himself some time and teleport.

Mel shook her head a little. If the guy had been planning anything, she would have heard, she could have gotten away. he really didn't have to defend her like that. She was flattered, but it was unnecessary. Mel wasn't in any danger or anything.
She just nodded to him and took her shot, unfortunately it was a scratch, and she sighed. "Your turn." She said. It would be much faster if he didn't go sit between every shot, pool was a pretty fast game sometimes.

When Mel shook her head, Adrian frowned, puzzled. Had he offended her? Shaking his head, he walked over and grabbed the cue ball. He looked over the table for a moment before placing the ball in the upper right hand corner of the table. Adrian bent over to take a look at the angle he was planning to shoot the ball at. He drew the cue back quickly before hitting the ball briskly. It bounced off of the wall and nicked the intended ball. The ball rolled over to the lip of the pocket and hung there, barely hanging on. Ah screw it, thought Adrian loudly. Well, if he could yell in his thoughts. Adrian stopped short though and looked quickly to Mel. She had said being in crowded places hurt her head and Adrian didn't want to make it worse. Sorry, did that hurt?, he asked her mentally. Adrian didn't want to cause her too much discomfort.

Mind yelling just made him louder, and he was loud enough all ready. it hurt a little but Mel shook her head. "no it's fine." And then, as an after thought. "No, you didn't offend me, you just didn't have to stare him down. I can hear him just fine." Mel smiled at Adrian all the same.
"I used to play pool with my dad." She said, lining up a shot and hitting in a solid and a stripe. Whoops. his turn again.

Adrian smiled, relieved he hadn't caused her too much discomfort. She knocked another solid in before a striped ball rolled in to the center pocket. Adrian silently pumped a fist at his good luck. Before leaning down to take his next shot, Adrian chalked the end of his cue. Adrian misjudged the speed of his stroke and sent the cue ball flying far too hard for it to make a decent shot. It connected with a striped ball and looked like it was going to wards the hole until a solid ball came flying through and knocked it off course. And of course, the solid ball rolled in. Crap, Adrian thought. "The winner is the one at the end with the most balls on the table, right?" He asked Mel aloud jokingly. People were probably getting the wrong ideas, with us looking at each other then laughing all the time. People around here were sometimes nice to Foxglove kids, sometimes they weren't. They weren't in any danger, most of the kids could probably eliminate most of the town's population in one night. It was a gruesome thought but a true one.

Mel laughed. "I believe you've got the rules wrong A-man." She joked back, taking her turn. Setting two stripped balls into a pocket, one after the other. Then she hit nothing. Oh well. It was only a game, and she was still winning. That much was obvious.
No one really paid them any mind. there was a normal high school around here, and as far as anyone else was concerned they looked like regular kids. Mel could hear as much in thei heads.

Adrian laughed hard at her comment. It was pretty funny. "A-M-man, I like that!" He told her. A-Man, it was a great nickname. Adrian bent his body over and took his shot quickly. He sank the eleven ball. Adrian was so excited he nearly jumped in the air. Looking to Mel he thought, "Boo-yah, I made one.". He was careful not to think too loud. The reason Adrian preferred to speak to Mel through his mind was because he didn't stutter in his mind. When he and Mel were alone he didn't stutter, but there were a lot of people in the bar. Adrian lined up for his next shot slowly, wanting to make another shot. The cue ball was hit off-center and spun erratically to the left, smacking several balls. Well you couldn't make them all. At least he hadn't scratched or made a ball for her, haha.

Mel grinned lightly and chuckled slightly. "I'm still winning." She said in a sing song voice. But she did wish him luck in the game, somehow it felt rude to beat him, but oh well. She got two more balls in before sending in a stripe, scoring for him. She was almost done with the solids, soon she'd have to get the 8 into a pocket and end the game. Not yet though.

Mel was right; she was beating him senseless. I'm pretty terrible at pool, he thought. Adrian took a few more shots, and so did she. Mel ended up winning the game. Afterwords Adrian bought some sodas and they walked back to Foxglove together, the best of friends. THREAD END;;Cheesy, I know. Sorry for the abruptness.
